2020 Annual Conference Cancellation

Dear WACJ Membership,

It is with much regret that we have to send this email but the unfortunate times that we find ourselves in have brought much uncertainty about a plethora of things, including the wisdom and feasibility of professional gatherings like our conference. As we are unsure what the health environment is going to look like in October and also because many of us are working at institutions that have unfortunately had to make financial sacrifices (especially for things like travel expenses), the Executive Board has decided to cancel the WACJ 2020 conference in Reno that would have been from October 14-16, 2020.

We understand that this might be an extremely disappointing decision for many of you who had planned on attending and presenting. We are especially disappointed for the students who would have attended and possibly presented at a conference for the first time. We are very sorry that this is the decision we had to come to, but we discussed this extensively and did not feel that we had any alternative. As you probably also know we are not the only 2020 academic criminal justice/criminology conference that came to this decision.

We have also decided to extend the lifetime membership offer that was supposed to expire before this year’s conference by one more year. This means you can still obtain a lifetime membership via the WACJ website (wacj.org) at the reduced rate. Also, any single year memberships already paid for this year will automatically be rolled over to next year.  For those of you who may have already submitted your conference registration fees, please contact Andrew Giacomazzi, our WACJ Treasurer, at wacjtreasurer@gmail.com if you would like to roll those over to next year’s conference, or receive a refund.

If you have any comments, questions, or concerns we can address, please contact Marianne Hudson, our WACJ Secretary, at wacjsecretary@gmail.com.

We look forward to being with you all again in person in Spokane, Washington, October 13-15, 2021!
